Uniquely Smoky Grapefruit Gin and Tonic

The smoky flavour of grilled grapefruit as well as its natural tartness adds a twist to the classic gin and tonic.

Takes: 10 minutes

  • 2 oz. tonic
  • 2 oz. soda
  • Sea salt
  • 1 half-wheel slice of pink grapefruit
  • 2 oz. gin
  • 1⁄2 oz. grapefruit juice

Build a medium-heat fire in a charcoal grill, or heat a gas grill to medium. Alternatively, you can heat a cast-iron grill pan over medium-high heat.

Place grapefruit on grill and cook, turning once, until lightly charred (do this for about 1 minute).

Remove from heat and set aside.

Add gin and grapefruit juice to an ice-filled rocks glass.

Top with tonic and soda, and garnish with grilled grapefruit slice sprinkled with sea salt.
